My entry (posted below) is a 1936 newspaper article about my great-great grandmother Lucy Ann Jackson. Enslaved on a plantation in southwest Virginia until shortly after the Civil War, my great-great grandmother was identified in that 1936 article as the nation\u2019s \u201coldest voter\u201d at the age of 114.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/roger-glass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Lucy-Ann-J-article-1936.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-317 aligncenter\" alt=\"Lucy Ann J article - 1936\" src=\"https:\/\/roger-glass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Lucy-Ann-J-article-1936-627x1024.jpg\" width=\"584\" height=\"953\" srcset=\"https:\/\/roger-glass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Lucy-Ann-J-article-1936-627x1024.jpg 627w, https:\/\/roger-glass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Lucy-Ann-J-article-1936-183x300.jpg 183w, https:\/\/roger-glass.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/Lucy-Ann-J-article-1936.jpg 1188w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/a>American slavery is said to have begun in August of 1619 when a ship carrying 20 enslaved Africans arrived in Virginia.
